What- October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Pink Ribbon is the International Symbol for breast cancer awareness
Why should you care –
- Breast Cancer is the leading cancer among women in the West. In India, One in 30 women is at risk of developing breast cancer in her lifetime.
- Breast cancer is now being discovered in younger women (less than 40) and in India it has replaced Cervical Cancer as the leading Cancer in Women
- 56% of Indian Patients have large tumors at the first detection compared to the West where they generally have smaller tumors.
- Men are also susceptible to Breast Cancer with One in 100 patients being male with lumps or tumors in the armpits or chest valves.

I want to highlight a few products and events in India that are supporting the cause of Breast Cancer this month.

is the fundraising arm of Ogaan Cancer Foundation. It has a Facebook page which can give you lots of information about Breast Cancer events and promotions in India.

Hidesign has brought out a limited edition of pink accessories called the “Pink Ribbon Collection” and 20% of the proceeds will go to Breast Cancer Charity.

Tara Jewellers has created Special Pink Ribbon Diamond Pendants and 20 percent of the Proceeds will go to Charity.

World’s Largest Human Awareness Ribbon– On 30th October 2011 in Bangalore, the HCG Oncology is planning to form the largest Human awareness ribbon. To pledge your presence click .
Global Landmarks Illumination -Elle, Estee Lauder, Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Women’s Cancer Initiative-Tata Memorial Hospital will get together like every year to bathe the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Pink Light to create awareness about the cause.
is celebrating Wear Pink to Work day on the 3rd Friday of October i.e. 21st October 2011. Companies can encourage employees to simply wear pink to show their support to the cause.
