Well, it’s Tuesday, and I’m back again with another fun project to do with your kids: Homemade Bubble Solution! I know that bubble solution isn’t the most expensive thing to buy, but it is soooo cheap to make. And, sometimes, in the late afternoon, when naps were too short and my husband is working late, the toys are all boring and you just need something to do, it’s nice to have a simple recipe for making your own homemade bubble solution on hand. Do the afternoons sometimes get long for anyone else?
We tried two different recipes for making our own bubble solution. The first recipe is very simple, and I would be shocked if you didn’t already have everything on hand already to make this.
Simple Homemade Bubble Solution:
- 2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of dish soap
Simply mix the ingredients together until the sugar is totally dissolved. Then, after done playing, store in an air-tight container.
The next recipe requires an ingredient that is a bit more “rare”, but the bubbles from this solution are a bit better, but, like I said, they weren’t terrible with the first recipe.
Little Less Simple Homemade Bubble Solution
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 Tablespoons dish soap or laundry soap
- 1 Tablespoon Glycerin
- 1 teaspoon sugar
Once again, simply mix the ingredients together until all of the sugar is completely dissolved. Then, once you are done using it, store it in an air-tight container.

This, like the edible oatmeal playdough, was a real lifesaver during a recent VERY cold snap here in Minnesota. We were trapped inside for 2 full days and by the end of it we were all climbing the walls. I was happy to find all the ingredients I needed already in my kitchen and the kids loved playing with the bubbles. And, I’m so thankful that I didn’t get rid of those old bubble wands!
And so, I hope you give these recipes a try and let me know how they turn out for you. They will, of course, vary depending on the type of soap you use in the solution.
Thanks for being here,
