15th of August, a proud day in our nation’s history has slowly ceased to be a day to be celebrated, rejoiced and cherished. Instead it has ended up being just another holiday. The kids are definitely taught at school about India’s Independence struggle and the victory our freedom fighters finally claimed over the British Empire but that doesn’t absolve us of our responsibility of instilling patriotic values and making them understand the significance of our hard earned freedom.

Films like Lagaan, Swades or even Lage Raho Munna Bhai are perfect for kids to watch and learn more about their country while having fun.
Take a trip to a National Monument

Although this might be a tad difficult given the tight security measures that are put up at almost all National monuments during Independence day but if possible do take a trip to a historical landmark like India Gate, Jalian Wala Bagh or Red Fort. Don’t despair if you can’t make it to the actual monument, you can always take a virtual tour on the internet and know more about our country’s history and how life was before Independence.
